Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) under the Companies Act, 2013 enables companies to contribute towards social and developmental initiatives. To ensure transparency and accountability in utilization of CSR funds, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) introduced mandatory registration of CSR implementing agencies through e-Form CSR-1.

Prior to acceptance of CSR funds, the agencies are required to obtain CSR Registration by filing Form CSR-1 with the Registrar.

Who is eligible for CSR-1 Registration?

  1. Section 8 Company established under the Companies Act and engaged in charitable or social activities.
  2. Registered Public Trust
  3. Registered Society registered under the Societies Registration Act
  4. Trusts, societies, or Section 8 companies established by Central Government or State Government
  5. Any entity established by act of Parliament or State Legislature

Established track record of at least three years in undertaking similar activities is required for all above entities.

Conditions for Registration-

The implementing agency should satisfy the following:

  • The entity should be legally registered.
  •  PAN of the entity should be available.
  • Activities should fall within permissible CSR activities under Schedule VII of the Companies Act, 2013.
  • Registration details should be consistent across supporting documents.
  •  Valid email and mobile details should be available

Documents Required for CSR-1 Registration

For all entities:

  • PAN card of entity.
  • Email address and mobile number as OTP will be sent
  • Registration certificate/incorporation certificate.
  • Details of directors/trustees/governing body members.
  • Digital Signature Certificate (DSC) of authorized signatory.
  • PAN and DIN (if applicable) of directors/trustees.

For Trust:

  • Trust Deed.
  • Registration Certificate of Trust.
  • PAN of Trust.

For Society:

  •    Society Registration Certificate.
  •    Memorandum of Association (MOA).
  •    Rules and Regulations/Bye-laws.
  •    PAN of Society.

For Section 8 Company:

  • Certificate of Incorporation.
  • Memorandum of Association.
  • Articles of Association.
  • PAN of Company.

Upon successful filing of Form CSR-1 and approval, MCA generates a unique CSR Registration Number in the format:

CSRXXXXXXXX

This registration number is required while receiving CSR funds from companies.
